Health Advocate

A Health Advocate is able to support people with a learning disability attend and prepare for primary healthcare appointments.

They provide advocacy support to ensure service users understand and have an input into their ongoing health needs; supporting them to ask relevant questions, explain decisions, terminology etc.

Levels of contact and support to use services are varied according to individual’s health needs and levels of independence.

Services used by clients requiring support include:

- Routine visits to the GP

- Annual Health checks

- Asthma clinic

- Dentistry

- ENT department

- Heart clinic

- Podiatry Services

- Speech Therapy

- Endoscopies

- Family Planning

- Orthotics
